MP4.
A widely-supported video container (technically MPEG-4 Part 14) that typically wraps H.264 or H.265 video and AAC audio. Output of Safari's `MediaRecorder` and required by some legacy tools.
When MP4 matters
Older video editors, embedded players in legacy CMSs, and some corporate VPN-locked tools play MP4 but not WebM. Modern stacks accept either.
In Screendog
If Safari produces MP4, Screendog uploads MP4. If Chrome/Firefox/Edge produce WebM, we upload WebM. The viewer page plays both.
Frequently asked
Can I force MP4 output?
Not from a Chromium-based recorder without post-processing. Screendog uses whatever the browser produces natively.
